Purchased a refurbished Form2 and have yet to print a successful print
Resin Cartridge Rubber Valve ended up in Tank during print
So I cleaned everything and installed a new resin cartridge, and am using that with the old (now cleaned) tank.
Started printing, and about an hour in it stopped with a ‘motor jammed ’ Error.
The wiper blade makes a loud noise across the tank. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the tank.
At this point, I’m not sure what to do. Besides replace the tank completely, but that’s a big waste of money. And I’m still not sure why this is all happening.
Formlabs disappointment
Can you tell me where I can buy the diode and how you opened the cylinder where the laiser is?
Formlabs disappointment
Yes they do not provide the laser for users, but now Formlabs does not even want to supply to the network hated in Brazil, Fromlabs wants me to send the printer to them there is sendable.
Failed to start print
Hey,
When you upload a print, is the machine mention that it heated up to the right temperature and the tank is filled? Or it was on this screen for a while?
What type of resin you used?

Hey,
Sorry to hear you experianced such a thing.
About the valve failure, it might be a manufacturing failure, I’m sure the support will want this cartridge back for investigation. Also ask for a replacement cartridge as you paid for it and haven’t used it.
About the wiper, sometimes when there is no resin in the tank or the machine just filling the tank, there is not enough lubrication for the wiper. You can do a few things for it:
Remove the wiper and move it manually in the resin so it will be fully wet by the resin.
Or pour some resin in the middle slot of the wiper, sometimes the wiper is so sealed so no resin going between thw two edges and its making an unpleasant noises.
Keep us posted.

Rigid and Flexible old resin
Hello,
I have just took out from the the closet the rigid and flexible resins and tanks.
They have not been used for almost a year (if no more). There was a separation of the materials to layers in the tank. The flexible (that is gray) turn into very dark chocolate color at the top layer and the bottom was completely white. It was extremely hard to remove the white layer from the silicon of the tank, took me about 30 mints to scrap it all from the silicon and put it in a different container. I put this aside for now.
Took the Rigid and in the tank, the bottom layer turned into dense material (like caramel) that was stick to the shovel. Didn’t have a change to mix it together again. I also scratch the LT time while trying to remove it, it was so sticky so I put it aside as well.
Took a new LT tank and mixed well the rigid cartridge. Started a print and… no resin going out from the cartridge. Pulled the cartridge out and fliped it so the valve is facing up. I’ve advanced a flat screwdriver through the valve and it was hard to pass through a thick layer of very dense material.
My question is how do I store a used cartridge and tank for a long term? Is it got expiration? couldn’t find anything on the box or on the cartridge labels.
Wants to know if I have no other choice but to dispose 2 LT tanks (printed twice on each) and 2 almost full cartridges.
Thanks.
Form 3 Power-Save
Today i received my form 3 printer. Is there any power off option or standby ?
Thanks
FREE: Form 1+ w/ accessories (SF Bay Area)
Up for grabs is a Form 1+, with power supply and various goodies:
- z-vat dust cover
- two build platforms
- two resin tanks
- four spare ball spring plungers (new)
- two IPA dip tanks
- IPA spray bottle
- various scrapers, combs, and a mesh strainer
- some medium mesh cone strainers
- like half a liter of white resin (GPWH04, November 2017)
I got this from my buddy back in 2017, who himself got it through the original Kickstarter campaign. We are both hobbyists that used it lightly.
I last printed with it in January of 2018. I had just cleaned the mirrors to address some rashing issues, and the print quality went way up. Shortly thereafter, my hobby time got directed elsewhere. It’s been sitting in a supply closet ever since.
Since the unit worked just fine before I put it in storage, I have strong reason to believe it’s fully functional to this day, but I’m not about to present it as such since I’m hoping to avoid setting it all up again.
Now for the catches:
- local pickup only (I’m in the SF bay area’s peninsula)
- the ball spring plungers are kinda sticky, so the resin tank can be finicky to get out. I hit up Formlabs about the issue back in 2017 and they sent me replacement plungers, which I haven’t found time to install but will be passing along here.
- resin’s been sitting in the tank since December of 2017. I understand this isn’t ideal. For what it’s worth, the unit’s been tucked away from sunlight.
I’m listing this here for free with the hope that someone who knows what they’re doing turns up and it serves some purpose. Failing this I’ll head to Craigslist.
Please reply to this thread if interested. I’m hoping to make space sooner rather than later, so if this sees any response, I’ll prefer those who can commit to coming out sooner. I’m available as soon as this Wednesday, September 4.

Form 3 Power-Save
I powered my form 3 for the first time yesterday. It stayed on and never went to sleep. There does not look like there is a way to power it down. The user manual says to pull the plug when you want to turn it off. I imagine that there is a sleep mode that I did not wait long enough to trigger?!!

Form Wash says 12V but is actually 24V
On the back my Form Wash says 12V on the jack input, but comes with a 24V supply. My reading says this is normal, and that they do indeed come with a 24V supply.
I put there here mostly for search results so the next poor sod trying to figure out his wiring after disconnecting everything and trying to rematch everything isn’t alarmed.
Failed to start print
it wouldn’t heat up and said it wasn’t recognising the tray or tank. It eventually started to print and the error message wen away though? it was quite a heavy file though so might just have been glitching out trying to read it?!

Resin Cartridge Rubber Valve ended up in Tank during print
Sorry to hear that.
My very first print with a Form 2 ended with a floating valve cap. I was fortunately babying the machine at the time, so I was able to stop things before things went critical.
Because of this experience, I always manually make sure that the bite valve can be opened with proper “pinching” pressure. Many times now, I’ve needed to manually open the bite valve’s slit with a knife before using a new cartridge. I’d recommend you and any user of new resin do something similar.
That plastic orange tab isn’t enough, but I suspect FormLab’s supply chain is too deep for a rememdy to show up any time soon.
I realize that you don’t have proof that this ciould have been due to the age of the cartridge, but I feel like the situation hasn’t really improved with newer cartridges. I’d like to see/hear about manufacturing improvements if they’ve been made, and would suggest you ask for the same if FormLabs blames the age of the cartridge.

That has happened to some people before, but it’s not very common. Contact Formlabs about it and at the very least they can tell you how to properly clean the printer though it’s possible that some parts are ruined from the spill.
Also, even though a cartridge may be unused if it’s more than a year old then it’s expired and you’d likely have problems anyway.
Base Extended on Build Plate
I can’t imagine how a laser could be expanded to that point due to optical flaws and still print layers without ending up with a huge amount of partially cured resin in the tank and then still be able to print the parts there

Actually, different resins have different recommended lifetimes: https://support.formlabs.com/s/article/Choosing-the-Right-Material?language=en_US#lifetime
OP didn’t mentioned the resin type they were using, so it’s still possible that the resin is(/was?) still good.
